Battery Management Unit - Replace

Usage:

Energy and Power Battery Management System (EBMS/PBMS) Module Replacement

  1. Verify that the system is shut down and all safety procedures have been followed for lockout and tagout.

  2. Turn module board power switch to the OFF position.

  3. Remove the four power cables (1) from the module. Two cables are for the plus and minus terminals for module. Two cables are for the plus and minus terminals for the bus.

  4. Remove all the connectors from the module. Each connector has a locking latch that must be released to remove the cable connector.

    (3) Standoff
    (4) Standoff locked
    (5) Standoff released

  5. Press the latch (4) in on each plastic standoff (3) and pull off board of each standoff.

  6. Install the replacement board using the reverse procedure for removal.

  7. Install the board onto the plastic standoffs. Press only in the area of each standoff to install the board. Verify that all the standoffs latch.

  8. Install all the connectors to the board that were removed in Step 4. Verify that the locking latch has engaged.

  9. Install the four power cables what were removed earlier. Be sure to install the cables correctly.

Short Circuit Potential

  1. There could be a short circuit potential if the module and/or the bus cables are reversed or polarity is reversed. Take care to install correctly the power cables from the cells and the power cables for the bus.

  2. Torque the power connections to 2.5 N·m (22 lb in).

Battery Management Unit (BMU) Replacement

  1. Ensure that the system is shut down.

  2. Remove the cable from the battery management unit (BMU).

  3. Slide the BMU upwards carefully to avoid cracking the plastic housing.

  4. Install new BMU using reverse order of the removal process.
