Winch Oil - Change

Usage:

Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


Boom Winch

The boom winch has a separate oil supply that must be changed periodically. However, the hook winch is pressure lubricated with hydraulic oil and does not require the oil to be changed by the operator.

  1. Park the machine on level ground. Turn OFF the engine.

    (1) Oil breather
    (2) Oil filler plug
    (3) Oil drain plug

  2. Remove oil drain plug (3) from the boom winch and allow the oil to drain in a suitable container.

    Note: To help drain the oil, remove oil filler plug (2).

  3. Install oil drain plug (3) after all of the oil has been drained. Tighten plug (3).

  4. Refill the boom winch with new oil to the bottom of the oil filler plug opening. Install plug (2).

    Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities" for the correct type of oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)" for the correct amount of oil.
