Failure of the Weld Nuts in the Exhaust Shields on C175-16 Petroleum Engines{1067} Caterpillar

The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

The weld nuts for securing the heat shields can break loose. Most of the nuts are inside of the heat shields.

Solution

To help prevent the weld nuts from breaking, lubricate the threads and the shoulders of the bolts with 4C-5599 Anti-Seize Compound (HIGH TEMPERATURE) .

Tighten the bolts to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).
