Failure of Fuel Temperature Sensors in Fuel Metering Valves on Certain G3500B Engines{1917, 1924}

Usage:

G3516B JEF
Engine:
G3508B (S/N: RBK1-UP)
G3512B (S/N: JHH1-UP)
G3512E (S/N: GYM1-UP)
G3516B (S/N: JEF1-UP)

Introduction

The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

The 264-4297 Temperature Sensor has failed in some of the following fuel metering valves in the above G3500B Engines:

When a fuel temperature sensor fails, the temperature is not measured accurately, causing erratic engine operation.

Solution

Use the following procedure to replace the fuel temperature sensor.

Table 1
Required Parts
Part     Qty
264-4297 Temperature Sensor     1
155-2270 Connecting Plug Kit
The kit will only be needed if the sensor connector is missing the 155-2261 Plug Lock Wedge .

  1. Install a new 264-4297 Temperature Sensor . Tighten the sensor to 20 ± 3 N·m (15 ± 2 lb ft).

  1. Inspect the harness connector for the sensor. Make sure that the 155-2261 Plug Lock Wedge is installed in order to retain the connector sockets.

If the wedge is not installed, obtain a 155-2270 Connecting Plug Kit . Take the 155-2261 Plug Lock Wedge and install the wedge into the harness connector.

  1. Connect the harness to the sensor.

  1. Install the cover for the fuel metering valve. Tighten the screws to 17 ± 1 N·m (13 ± 1 lb ft).

  1. Turn the engine control switch to the STOP position. Confirm that the reading of the fuel temperature sensor is correct.

  1. Return the engine to service. Monitor the engine performance in order to ensure that the proper levels of exhaust emissions are maintained.
