Note: During the assembly of the control valve, ensure that the parts are assembled in the proper orientation. An "X" is stamped at one end of each main component. All of the components must be installed with the "X" labels at the same side of the control valve.

Note: Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.

Note: Lubricate the components of the control valve with clean hydraulic oil before installation.

  1. Install O-ring seals (14) onto valve bushing (6).

  2. Use a suitable lifting device to position control valve (3) onto a suitable press. Refer to Table 2 for the approximate weight of control valve (3).

    Note: The "X" on the valve bushing must be on the same side as the "X" on the valve body.

  3. Use Tooling (A) and a suitable press to install valve bushing (6) into control valve (3).

  4. Use a suitable lifting device to remove control valve (3) from the suitable press.

  5. Apply Tooling (B) to the threads of plugs (11) and orifice (13). Install O-ring seals (12) and plugs (11). Install orifice (13).

  6. Apply Tooling (B) to the threads of plugs (9). Install O-ring seals (10) and plugs (9).

  7. Install spool (8) and spool (7) into spool (5).

  8. Ensure that spool (8) and spool (7) move freely after installation. If either of the spools do not move freely, polish the spool with an emery cloth until the spool moves freely.

  9. Install spool (5) into valve bushing (6). Ensure that spool (5) moves freely after installation. If spool (5) does not move freely, polish the spool with an emery cloth until the spool moves freely.

    Note: The "X" on spool (5) must be on the same side as the "X" on valve bushing (6).

  10. Install O-ring seal (4) onto cover (3).

  11. Install cover (2).

    Note: The cover with the "X" must be installed on the same side as the "X" on the control valve.

  12. Apply Tooling (C) to the threads of bolts (1). Install bolts (1).

  13. Repeat Step 10 and Step 13 for the remaining cover.

End By:

  1. Install the pressure control valve to the control valve. Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly, "Pressure Control Valve - Install".

  2. Install the check valve to the control valve. Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly, "Check Valve - Install".

  3. Install the control valve onto the hammer. Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly, "Control Valve - Install".
