Work Tool Troubleshooting

Usage:

G315B AFZ

Operational Checks

Operate the work tool in each direction and at different engine speeds. Note the noises that are not normal and find the sources of the noises. If the work tool is not operating properly, refer to the following troubleshooting problem list.

Verify that the hydraulic system of the host machine is functioning properly. Refer to the Testing and Adjusting procedures of the host machine.

Troubleshooting Problem List

Table 1

The production of the work tool has decreased.     The hydraulic oil pressure or oil flow is insufficient.

There is excess back pressure in the hydraulic system.

The Hydraulic Rotator is leaking internally. Refer to Service Manual, "Hydraulic Rotator Leakage - Test" for information on testing the swivel for leakage.

The cylinder is leaking internally. Refer to Service Manual, "Cylinder Leakage - Test".

The swivel is leaking internally. Refer to Service Manual, "Swivel Leakage - Test" for more information.

A gerotor motor is leaking internally. Refer to Service Manual, "Gerotor Motor Leakage - Test".

A control valve is faulty. Refer to Service Manual, "Control Valve - test and adjust".

The work tool will not rotate or the work tool will not rotate smoothly.     The hydraulic oil pressure or oil flow is insufficient.

There is excess back pressure in the system.

The hydraulic oil is contaminated. Refer to the Service Manual for the host machine for the appropriate information.

The gear and bearing are damaged. Inspect the gear and bearing for damage. Refer to Service Manual, "Gear and Bearing - Remove and Install".

The drive gear on the gerotor motor is damaged. Inspect the gear for damage. Refer to Service Manual, "Gerotor Motor - Remove".

The auxiliary control valve of the host machine is not operating properly. Refer to the Service Manual for the host machine for the appropriate information.

A control valve is faulty. Refer to Service Manual, "Control Valve - Test and Adjust".

A gerotor motor is leaking internally. Refer to Service Manual, "Gerotor Motor Leakage - Test".

The work tool rotates faster in one direction.     The auxiliary control valve on the host machine is not functioning properly. Refer to the Service Manual for the host machine for the appropriate information.

A control valve is faulty. Refer to Service Manual, "Control Valve - Test and Adjust".

The hydraulic oil is contaminated. Refer to the Service Manual for the host machine for the appropriate information.
The shells of the work tool close slowly.     The hydraulic oil pressure or oil flow is insufficient.

There is excess back pressure in the system.

The cylinder is leaking internally. Refer to Service Manual, "Hydraulic Cylinder Leakage - Test".

The hydraulic oil overheats.     The hydraulic oil pressure is set too high.

The hydraulic oil is contaminated. Refer to the Service Manual for the host machine for the appropriate information.

The hydraulic oil level is low. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for the host machine for the appropriate information.

The viscosity of the hydraulic oil is incorrect. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for the host machine for the appropriate information.

A relief valve on the host machine is stuck open. Refer to the Service Manual for the host machine for the appropriate information.

The hydraulic oil cooler on the host machine is not functioning properly. Refer to the Service Manual information for the host machine.

A control valve is faulty. Refer to Service Manual, "Control Valve - Test and Adjust".

The work tool operates erratically.     Air is trapped in the hydraulic oil. Refer to Service Manual, "Hydraulic System Air - Purge".

The hydraulic oil pressure or oil flow is insufficient.

The hydraulic oil is contaminated. Refer to the Service Manual information for the host machine.

The hydraulic oil level is low. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for the host machine for the appropriate information.
