Host Machine Pressure and Flow - Test

Usage:

G315B AFZ

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.

Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.

Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Lower the boom to the ground and stop the engine of the host machine. Relieve the pressure from the hydraulic system. Refer to Testing and Adjusting for the host machine.

Note: Before you use 4C-9910 Portable Hydraulic Tester, read the user manual for proper utilization. Be sure to understand the operation of the tester and the maintenance of the tester before usage.

  1. Connect 4C-9910 Portable Hydraulic Tester (2) to inlet line (1) and to return line (4) .

  1. Start the host machine. Run the host machine at high idle until the hydraulic oil reaches the normal operating temperature of 55° ± 5°C (131° ± 9°F). All testing must be done at maximum engine rpm, maximum power level, and maximum work mode.

  1. Gradually close the orifice valve on the hydraulic tester until operating pressure is reached. Refer to Table 2 for the operating pressure.

        Operating Pressure
    OPEN/CLOSE OPERATION

    ROTATE
    14000 to 18500 kPa (2030 to 2680 psi)

  1. Record the reading from the hydraulic flow tester. Refer to Table 3 and Table 4 for the proper specifications. If necessary, adjust the flow. Refer to Service Manual for the host machine for the proper procedure. The flow must be within the specifications at the normal operating pressure of the work tool.

  1. Record the back pressure reading from pressure gauge (3) on the Service Record for the work tool. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Work Tool Installation" for the service record. If the pressure exceeds the specification, check the return side of the system for a restriction.

  1. After adjustments have been made, stop the engine on the host machine and relieve the hydraulic pressure. Remove the tooling from the hose assemblies.

( 1 ) The operating pressure of the work tool will vary with the conditions: application of the work tool, the back pressure in the work tool, oil viscosity, flow rate and other factors. The operating pressure of the work tool is shown as a range for the preceding reasons.
( 2 ) Back pressure that exceeds the given value will increase the operating pressure of the work tool. Back pressure that exceeds the given value will reduce the overall efficiency of the work tool. The cooling requirements for the system of the work tool will be greater.
