Pads - Remove and Install

Start By:

  1. Release the hydraulic system pressure. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release".

  2. Remove the buffer. Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly, "Buffer - Remove and Install".

Note: Always replace both pads if one or both of the set is damaged or worn.

  1. Ensure that the hammer is secure, in an upright position, and cannot fall.

  2. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to hydraulic hammer (1). Refer to Table 2 for the approximate weight of hydraulic hammer (1).

  3. Slowly lift hydraulic hammer (1) enough to position suitable blocking. Position the blocking between the valve body of the hammer and the pad on the opposite side of the pad that is being replaced. Do not remove the hammer from the housing.

  4. Use a suitable prybar to loosen pad (2). Remove pad (2). Repeat this step for the opposite side.

Installation Procedure

  1. Clean all parts and inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.

  2. Install pad (2). Repeat this step for the opposite side

  3. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device onto hydraulic hammer (1). Refer to Table 3 for the approximate weight of hydraulic hammer (1).

  4. Remove the suitable blocking and lower the hammer onto the pads.

  5. Ensure that the hammer is secure, in an upright position, and cannot fall.

End By:

  1. Install the buffer. Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly, "Buffer - Remove and Install".
