Turbocharger - Remove

Usage:

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. If necessary, remove the air inlet elbows. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Air Lines - Remove and Install".


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Drain the coolant from the engine into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".

  2. Remove the exhaust piping from the turbocharger.

  3. If necessary, remove clamp (6). Disconnect the air inlet elbow from the turbocharger.

  4. If necessary, remove clamp (1). Disconnect the air pipe assembly from the turbocharger.

  5. Disconnect hose assembly (2) and hose assembly (5) from the turbocharger. Remove the O-ring seals.

  6. Remove the bolts and disconnect tube assemblies (3) and (4) from the turbocharger. Remove the gaskets from the turbocharger.

  7. Attach a suitable lifting device to turbocharger (7). The weight of turbocharger (7) is approximately 42 kg (93 lb).

  8. Remove locknuts (8).

  9. Remove turbocharger (7) and the gasket from the exhaust manifold.
