Introduction

Use the following information to maintain the proper certification requirements on Roll Over Protective Structures (ROPS) and Falling Object Protective Structures (FOPS).

Problem

There is a concern that machines with ROPS/FOPS may no longer meet certification requirements.

Solution

Most machines that are equipped with ROPS are also equipped with a FOPS. On machines such as large track type tractors which have an external ROPS, the cab is designed so that the roof is the FOPS. These cabs will display a FOPS film. See Illustration 1.

On machines that have an integral ROPS, the metal roof welded to the ROPS is the FOPS. These machines will display a ROPS/FOPS film. See Illustration 2.

Caterpillar, Inc. will now require that any proposed changes to a ROPS/FOPS be presented to the Global Dealer Solution Network (GDSN). This action should be done before any modifications or attachments are applied to the ROPS/FOPS. If there are questions concerning current modified ROPS/FOPS systems, contact the Global Dealer Solution Network (GDSN).
