Additional Functions

Usage:

CX28 TBB

Engine Running Starter Inhibit Enable Status

The engine running starter inhibit enable status parameter is used to control the starter interlock Output at C16: 23. This control is based on programming and the presence of battery voltage, typically the starter input from the operator key switch, at C16: 20. The Starter Interlock Output C16: 23 is a "2Amp" battery voltage driver.

Note: The ECU acts as a switch in the circuit between C16: 20 and C16: 23.

When the Engine Running Starter Inhibit Enable Status parameter is programmed to Enabled (default), the Starter Interlock Output (C16: 23) will be enabled when C16:20 is connected to + battery, the transmission is in Neutral, Neutral has been selected by the transmission shift selector, and the engine speed is 100 RPM below the engine Low Idle Speed. The output will NOT be enabled if shifted into Neutral by the Auto Neutral feature or by the Parking Brake with Neutralizer Logic Enabled feature, regardless of engine speed.

Note: If battery voltage is connected to the input at C16: 20 for more than 1 minute, the diagnostic code "158-2" will become active and the Check Transmission Lamp will be illuminated. This will inform the operator that something has gone wrong with the chassis starter control wiring connected to the transmission.

Service Brake Operation

The service brake operation is a function to read a switch input or brake switch over the data link.

The Service Brake may be a switch input to C16: 33 or a data link based message.

Parking Brake

The parking brake can be disabled or enabled using the ET service tool. The SWC input for the parking brake input shows the parking brake set when the input is a closed circuit. The parking brake is disengaged when the input has an open circuit.

The programmable parameters for the parking brake have the following selections:

  • Installed

  • Installed and Neutralizer Logic is Enabled

  • Not Installed

When the parking brake option "Installed and Neutralizer Logic is Enabled"is selected, the parking brake is used to force the transmission into neutral. Transitioning the Parking Brake control from OFF to ON after the vehicle has come to a complete stop (zero output shaft speed and zero vehicle speed broadcast over the J1939 Data Link), the transmission will shift into Neutral. Once in Neutral, the shift selector will indicate Neutral and the Desired Gear, Left "N" on the shift pad, will flash. This indicates to the operator that Neutral must be re-selected in order for the transmission to shift into a desired range. The transmission will not automatically shift back into the previous range. The operator is required to select Neutral and then the desired range. The operator can then drive through the Parking Brake if desired. Once the operator selects Neutral and then a range, the Neutralization feature is overridden. The transmission will not automatically shift back in to Neutral until the Parking Brake is released and then reapplied with zero vehicle speed.

Shift Display Blank Input Function

The shift display blank input function is for the operator to turn off the shift selector display during black out operations.

This function has a dedicated Switch To Battery switch input at C16:39. The programming is defaulted to Switch to Battery 3 and may not be changed. No other switch input option is available for this feature.

Gear Driver Output Indicator

The gear output indicator function is an on/off driver that will engage when specific gears are selected. The gears that turn on the gear indicator are selected by programmable parameters. The indicator can be programmed to turn on for a single gear or any combination of gears. This output is dedicated to the reverse range.

Note: Do Not change Factory settings.

  • Gear Indicator Reverse - Disabled/Enabled

  • Gear Indication Neutral - Disabled/Enabled

  • Gear Indicator 1F - Disabled/Enabled

  • Gear Indicator Reverse - Disabled/Enabled

  • Gear Indicator 2F - Disabled/Enabled

  • Gear Indicator 3F - Disabled/Enabled

  • Gear Indicator 4F - Disabled/Enabled

  • Gear Indicator 5F - Disabled/Enabled

  • Gear Indicator 6F - Disabled/Enabled

  • Gear Indicator 7F - Disabled/Enabled

  • Gear Indicator 8F - Disabled/Enabled

Note: The driver has the ability to drive up to 300 milliamps.

Differential to Differential Lock Operation

Differential to differential lock operation is requested by the operator by pressing and releasing the shift selector Mode Button. The Mode Button is dedicated to this feature. Pressing and releasing the Mode Button will enable the Mode Button LED and the output at C18:2 and disables the output at C18:20 after conditions have been met for differential lockup. The conditions for activation, or deactivation, of the differential lock output are:

  • Momentary press and release of the shift selector mode button

  • Ground speed equal to zero

  • Engine at low idle (< 1000 RPM)

  • Throttle position at minimum

When the red LED is ON and operation conditions have been met, ECM outputs at C18:2 will be enabled and the ecm output at C18:20 will be disabled. The output at C18:2 controls a solenoid valve mounted on the transfer case. The output at C18:20 is used to control the rear inter-axle differential lock.

During Differential Lock operation and the transfer case is in High Range the transmission will be limited to gear 5. During Differential Lock operation and the transfer case is in Low Range the transmission will not be limited and will be allowed to shift into gear 6 during operation.

Pressing and releasing the mode Button a second time, with all conditions met, will disable the LED and the outputs at C18:2 and enable the output at C18:20.

The transmission software will power up with the differential lock feature in the same state it was in when ignition power was last removed. If the transmission ECU loses ignition power, the previous state is preserved and the ECU manages the discrete drivers and maximum operational gear accordingly.

Transfer Case Low and High Range Control

Transfer case low and high ranges are requested with a chassis mounted switch to sensor common at C16: 12. The transfer case will default to High range with no electrical or pneumatic inputs. An open switch circuit requests that the transfer case be in High range. A closed switch will request that the transfer case be in low range. The transfer case high and low ranges are controlled by a solenoid mounted on the transfer Case. The ECM controls this solenoid with the output at C16: 5.

Switching between ranges when the vehicle is stationary requires that:

  • Transfer case output shaft speed is zero (vehicle is stopped).

  • The transmission is in neutral

  • Throttle is at minimum

The operator may request a switch from Low range to High range while the vehicle is moving. Once requested, the shift from Low range to High range will be allowed when:

  • Transmission has reached and is maintaining gear 6

If the vehicle has not achieved sixth gear, the ECM will delay the Low to High range shift until the transmission has completed a shift into sixth. Once the transition from Low to high range has been completed, the transmission will pick the appropriate gear based upon the resulting transmission output shaft speed.

The transmission ECM monitors High and Low range with a Detent Switch mounted on the transfer case. When, the transfer case is in High range the Detent Switch is Open. When the transfer case is in Low range, the Detent Switch is closed.

Side to Side Differential Lock Control

Side to side differential lock control is available for equipped axles. The side to side lock feature is used in poor traction situations and is restricted to when the transfer case is in Low range.

The operator requests side to side differential lock operation with chassis mounted switch to sensor common inputs to C16:13 (rear axle only) and C16: 35 (all axles). Typical implementation will have a three position switch where both circuits open will disable all side to side locks, closed circuit at C16:13 will lock the rear axles) and closed circuit at C16: 13 and C16: 35 will lock the side to side function on all axles. When conditions have been met the output at C16: 21 will engage the rear side to side lock (rear axle switch position) and the output at C16: 35 will engage the front axle (all axle side to side lock switch position).

There are no diagnostics supported for this feature.

Conditions for enabling Side to side differential lock outputs:

  • Low engine load

  • Transfer case is in low range

  • Low/High range request switch is in Low Range

  • Vehicle is stopped

  • ABS, if equipped, is not actively trying to control a braking skid

Conditions for disabling side to side differential lock outputs:

  • Operator requested that state is disengaged

  • Low engine load

  • Transfer case high range is requested - causes side to side lock outputs to be disabled

  • ABS, if equipped, is actively trying to control a braking skid
