CPI Project 201719 was launched in response to increased issues with 3406E and C15 remanufactured fuel injectors. The project focused on engine issues of injectors failing a cut out test. In all reported cases, the injectors were replaced.
The following improvements have been made to address the issues that have been found during this procedure:
- Improved accuracy of injector control valve assembly gauging.
- Addition of a test bench pass/fail criteria that improves test bench control and fuel injector delivery variation.
- Strengthened solenoid terminal post salvage processes to reduce terminal post issues.
- Addition of inspection processes to key control valve components to increase fuel injector life.
Some engines might require an increase in fuel rail pressure to address a rough idle issue. Refer to Truck Engine News, SEBD6821, "A New Spring Kit for the Fuel Transfer Pump Is Now Available" for information regarding the spring kit for the fuel transfer pump and other updates that will help increase fuel rail pressure.
