Note: Put identification marks on all hoses for installation purposes. Plug all hoses. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. To help prevent possible injury, turn the start switch off when changing fuel filters or water separator elements. Clean up fuel spills immediately.

  1. Fuel valve (1) is located under the fuel tank. Remove the cover in order to access fuel valve (1). Close fuel valve (1) .

  1. Open access door (2) .

  1. Drain sediment bowl (7) into a suitable container. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System Water Separator - Drain".

  1. Disconnect harness assembly (8). Disconnect fuel supply line (3). Disconnect hose assembly (4). Use Tooling (A) to remove fuel filter (6) and the sediment bowl. Remove the bolts and filter base (5) .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install filter base (5) and the bolts. Install fuel filter (6) and the sediment bowl. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel Filter Primary Filter (Water Separator) Element - Replace".

  1. Connect harness assembly (8). Connect hose assembly (4). Connect fuel supply line (3) .

  1. Close access door (2) .

  1. Open fuel valve (1). Install the cover.
