An Improved Exhaust Seal for the Exhaust Bypass Is Used {1057}

Engine News SEBD9604, 7 September 2009, "An Improved Exhaust Seal for the Exhaust Bypass Is Used". The article is revised to state that the previously used gasket for the above engines is not canceled. The newer gasket is recommended for the above engines.

Description of Change: The new exhaust seal with improved sealing quality is now used.

Adaptable To: The 345-1924 Gasket replaces the 7C-9710 Gasket for the above engines.

Although the 7C-9710 Gasket is not canceled, the gasket is not recommended for use with the above engines.

Effectivity for the 345-1924 Gasket is listed in Table 1.

During the installation of the new gasket, replace the four standard nuts that are used to secure the exhaust bypass valve with four 168-7800 Locknuts .

  1. Clean the stud, the locknut, and the base of the locknut prior to assembly.

  1. Tighten two diagonal locknuts.

    Torque ... 25 ± 6 N·m (18 ± 4 lb ft)

  1. Tighten the remaining locknuts.

    Torque ... 25 ± 6 N·m (18 ± 4 lb ft)

  1. Tighten all four locknuts again.

    Torque ... 47 ± 9 N·m (35 ± 7 lb ft)
