------ WARNING! ------

Do not disconnect the air lines until the air pressure in the system is at zero. If hose is disconnected under pressure it can cause personal injury.

NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Remove the air pressure from the air tank and drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual.

  2. Remove the belt. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Belt - Inspect/Adjust/Replace".

  1. Position pulley (5) and nut (7) on air compressor (4). Tighten nut (7) to a torque of 68 ± 7 N·m (50 ± 5 lb ft). Additional tightening may be necessary in order to align the hole in the compressor shaft with the slots in the nut. Install cotter pin (6).

  2. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to air compressor (4). The weight of air compressor (4) is approximately 30 kg (66 lb).

  3. Inspect the condition of the gasket. Replace the gasket, if necessary. Install the gasket and air compressor (4) on the sump and bracket assembly (9). Install bolts (13) and bolts (11).

  4. The weight of air compressor (4) and bracket assembly (9) is approximately 40 kg (88 lb). Place air compressor (4) and bracket assembly (9) in position. Install bolts (14), bolts (10), and bolts (8).

  5. Connect hose assembly (12) and hose assembly (3) to air compressor (4).

  6. Connect hose assembly (2) and hose assembly (1) to air compressor (4).

  7. Install the belt. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Belt - Inspect/Adjust/Replace".

  8. Fill the cooling system with coolant to the correct level. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for the correct filling procedure.
