At operating temperature, the oil in the power train is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns. Remove the breather filter cap when the engine is stopped and the breather cap is cool enough to touch by hand. Slowly loosen the breather filter cap in order to release any pressure in the oil tank. Be careful of hot hydraulic oil when any lines are disconnected from the components of the power train. |
NOTICE |
---|
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
Introduction
The following test will determine the pressures that are being delivered to each individual transmission clutch.
Clutches 1 through 4 will operate at the main relief pressure for the transmission when the clutch is engaged. Clutch 5 operates at 2240 ± 205 kPa (325 ± 30 psi) when the clutch is engaged.

Note: The following tests will require five sets of tooling (A or B) .
- Move the machine to a smooth horizontal location.
- Fully retract the counterweight. Engage the parking brake. Turn the engine OFF.
- Attach one set of tooling (A or B) to each pressure tap. Label each set of tooling (A or B) as the tooling is attached to a valve.

- Run the hydraulic hoses from tooling (A or B) into the cab.
- Start the engine. Warm the power train oil to a temperature of 80° ± 10°C (176° ± 18°F).
- Engage the service brake.
- Disengage the parking brake.
- Operate the engine at LOW IDLE (800 rpm). Place the machine in the FIRST SPEED FORWARD position.
Note: The service brakes should be able to hold the machine in place. If the machine begins to move, stop the test immediately and make sure that the service brakes are working properly.
- Check the pressure at tooling (A or B) for the No. 2 clutch. The pressure at tooling (A or B) should be 2760 ± 140 kPa (400 ± 20 psi).
- Check the pressure at tooling (A or B) for the No. 5 clutch. The pressure at tooling (A or B) for the No. 5 clutch should be 2240 ± 205 kPa (325 ± 30 psi).
- Use Table 3 in order to check all of the other combination of clutches. Copy Table 2 and record the pressure measurements in the table.
