Depth of the Spotface on the Support Assembly on Off-Highway Trucks{7051} Caterpillar

Introduction

The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

Several reports from the field have detailed a problem when you try to secure a socket to the bolt heads that attach the support assemblies to the rear axle. The depth of the spotface makes securing the socket on the bolt head difficult.

Solution

When you attach the support assembly to the rear axle, install 5T-4896 Spacers under the bolts. The spacers are 12 mm (0.47 inch) thick. The spacers will raise the bolt head out of the spotface. The 3S-6162 Hard Washer that is usually installed under the bolt is 6 mm (0.24 inch) thick.

Note: Only use the 5T-4896 Spacers on holes, as needed. Otherwise, use the 3S-6162 Hard Washer according to the assembly instructions.
