At operating temperature, the oil in the power train is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns. Remove the breather filter cap when the engine is stopped and the breather cap is cool enough to touch by hand. Slowly loosen the breather filter cap in order to release any pressure in the oil tank. Be careful of hot hydraulic oil when any lines are disconnected from the components of the power train. |
NOTICE |
---|
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
Introduction
The following test will determine whether the pressure of the transmission lubrication oil is at the specified limit. This oil is delivered from the power train oil cooler to the priority valve. The oil also comes from the transmission main relief valve.

Test Procedure
- Move the machine to a smooth horizontal location.
- Fully retract the counterweight. Engage the parking brake. Turn the engine OFF.
- Locate pressure tap (L1) on the machine. Pressure tap (L1) is located on the back of the transmission housing.

- Attach tooling (A or B) to pressure tap (L1) .
- Start the engine. Warm the power train oil to a temperature of 80° ± 10°C (176° ± 18°F).
- Make sure that the transmission is in NEUTRAL. Operate the engine at HIGH IDLE.
- Disengage the parking brake.
- Check the pressure at tooling (A or B). The pressure at tooling (A or B) should be 205 ± 35 kPa (30 ± 5 psi).
- Operate the engine at LOW IDLE (800 rpm). Make sure that the parking brake is disengaged.
- Check the pressure at tooling (A or B). The pressure at tooling (A or B) should be 24 ± 14 kPa (3.5 ± 2 psi).
