AccuGrade® GPS Using The CD550A Display (GPS/ATS/Sonic/Cross Slope) Caterpillar

Module - Replace

Usage:

12H AMZ
Ensure that replacement of the ECM is absolutely necessary prior to replacement of the ECM. The ECM is seldom the cause of a diagnostic code. Always check that the proper ground and power is available to the ECM Before replacing ECM, it is recommended that dealer service staff contact the ECM Hotline help desk. The ECM Hotline will provide guidance to determine if an ECM needs replaced. Dealer Technical Communicators have contact information for the ECM Hotline.

Note: New electronic control modules are available either pre-programmed for a particular machine or the ECM is not programmed. An ECM that has not been programmed must be programmed by using the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET). See item 6 in order to determine whether the ECM has been programmed.

  1. Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.

  1. Disconnect the machine harness from the ECM.

  1. Remove the ECM.

  1. Ensure that the replacement ECM has the correct part number.

  1. Connect the machine harness to the ECM.

  1. Determine whether the ECM has been programmed. Connect the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) to the service tool connector. The ET communicates to the ECM.

The ET will indicate whether the ECM has been programmed. An ECM that has not been programmed must be programmed by using the WinFlash software which is contained in the ET.

The ET will provide access to the ECM, if the ECM has already been programmed.

  1. You should use the ET. Select the "Service" function from the drop-down menu. Then, select the "Configuration" function. A list of items will appear. Each item in this list should be checked in order to verify that the setting matches the machine configuration.

  1. Perform all applicable system calibrations. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, RENR8088.
