  1. Install bearing cups (4) and (5) into wheel assembly (6). Check the seating with a feeler gauge.

  1. Install Duo-cone seal (3) in wheel assembly (6) .

  1. Install Duo-cone seal (2) on spindle (1) .

  1. Install bearing cone (11) on hub (7). Lightly oil the bearing cones. Check the seating with a feeler gauge.

    (8) Retainer plate

    (13) Hole

  1. Measure the thickness of retainer plate (8) with an outside micrometer. Measure the retainer plate at three small holes (13). Record the average of these three measurements.

  1. Install retainer plate (8) on spindle (1) with three bolts (9). Do not install shims (10). Do not tighten three bolts (9) .

Note: Install three bolts (9) in the locations that are shown in Illustration 2.

  1. Tighten three bolts (9) to a torque of 115 ± 15 N·m (85 ± 11 lb ft) in order to seat the bearings. Rotate wheel assembly (6) for several revolutions.

Note: Tighten three bolts (9) in the sequence that is shown in Illustration 2.

  1. Torque three bolts (9) again to a torque of 115 ± 15 N·m (85 ± 11 lb ft) and rotate wheel assembly (6) .

  1. Loosen three bolts (9) .

  1. Tighten three bolts (9) to a torque of 20 ± 7 N·m (15 ± 5 lb ft). Rotate wheel assembly (6) for several revolutions.

  1. Tighten three bolts (9) again to a torque of 20 ± 7 N·m (15 ± 5 lb ft).

  1. Measure the depth of the three small holes in retainer plate (8) through to the end of the spindle by using a depth micrometer. Record the average depth.

  1. Determine the difference between the two average measurements in Step 8 and Step 15. The difference is the gap between the end of spindle (1) and retainer plate (8) .

  1. Remove three bolts (9) and retainer plate (8) .

  1. Install shims (10) so that shims (10) are equal to the measurement that is found in Step 16. The shim pack must be within 0.025 mm (0.001 inch) of the clearance measurement.

  1. Install retainer plate (8) and eight bolts (9). Tighten eight bolts (9) to a torque of 125 ± 20 N·m (90 ± 15 lb ft). Turn eight bolts (9) an additional 120° ± 10°.
