(2) Bolt. (3) Upper Cap. (4) Tooling.

  1. Install original shim pack (1) under upper cap (3). Secure the upper cap with four bolts (2) and washers that are equally spaced. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 105 ± 20 N·m (77 ± 15 lb ft).

Note: Adding shims will decrease the rolling torque. Removing shims will increase the rolling torque.

  1. Attach Tooling (A) to the bearing cones of the lower hitch. Use a torque wrench and Tooling (A) to check the rolling torque. The rolling torque must be between 7.9 N·m (70 lb in) and 22.6 N·m (200 lb in). Add shims or remove shims, as required.

  1. When the correct rolling torque is achieved, remove Tooling (A) and install remaining four bolts (2) and washers. Tighten all eight bolts to a torque of 105 ± 20 N·m (77 ± 15 lb ft).

Upper Hitch Adjustment

    (4) Shim pack.

    Illustration 5g00885176

  1. Install original shim pack (4) under upper cap (5). Secure the upper cap with three bolts (6) that are spaced at 120 degree intervals. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 70 ± 15 N·m (52 ± 11 lb ft).

Note: Adding shims will decrease the rolling torque. Removing shims will increase the rolling torque.

  1. Attach Tooling (B) to the bearing cones of the upper hitch. Use a torque wrench and Tooling (B) to check the rolling torque. The rolling torque must be between 2.3 N·m (20 lb in) and 13.6 N·m (120 lb in). Add shims or remove shims, as required.

  1. When the correct rolling torque is achieved, remove Tooling (B) and install the remaining bolts (6). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 70 ± 15 N·m (52 ± 11 lb ft).
