Introduction to Safety

Safety is the most important activity that can be learned by anyone. When you are in the classroom, the laboratory or the work area, there are rules and regulations that specify the acceptable safety practices. The instructor will review the appropriate safety practices.

The Explorer II training unit will be used to demonstrate various hydraulic subjects. Students should become familiar with the components and the operation of the training unit.

The use of fluid power graphic symbols enables rapid communication with minimal wording to convey the construction of a hydraulic system. Students must become familiar with these symbols in order to understand the labs in this course and in order to read schematics in future courses.

Basic Safety Procedures

While you are working in the lab, the shop, or other work area it is important that safety procedures are followed. Practice the following procedures until correct habits are formed.

In any work area, the following procedure must be done:

  1. Maintain a clean work area at all times.

  1. Keep food and drink clear of work area.

  1. Handle electrical components and fittings with caution.

  1. Always use a grounded electrical source of the proper rating. The Explorer II system requires 115 VAC.

  1. Dress properly. DO NOT wear loose fitted clothing. DO NOT wear jewelry.

Additional Safety Procedures Explorer II Training Unit

The following safety procedures are very important when you work with hydraulic systems.

  1. Wear safety glasses at all times.
