Installation Procedure

Table 1
Required Tools
Tool  Part Number  Part Description  Qty
FT2674  Vacuum Cap
138-7573  Link Bracket
1U-6396  O-Ring Assembly Compound
1U-8846  Gasket Sealant
9S-3263  Thread Lock Compound

Note: O-rings, gaskets and seals should always be replaced. A used O-ring may not have the same sealing properties as a new O-ring. A reconditioning procedure should not be degraded because of a low cost component such as an O-ring or a gasket. Use Tooling (C) during the assembly procedure.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Note: Make sure that the threaded holes in the undercarriage frame assembly for mounting the swivel joint are clean and free of dirt and debris.

  1. Apply a bead of Tooling (D) to the surface of the undercarriage frame assembly prior to the installation of the swivel joint.

  2. Install the cap to the hydraulic tank. Attach Tooling (A) to the hydraulic tank.

Note: Hook up the air to Tooling (A) in order to create a vacuum in the hydraulic system. This will minimize the leakage from the hose assemblies.

  3. Fasten Tooling (B) and a hoist to the swivel. Install the swivel on the machine. The weight of the swivel is approximately 43 kg (95 lb).

  4. Make sure that the identification mark on the bottom face of the swivel faces toward the front of the machine.

  5. Install the rubber boot and hose clamp (15). Tighten the hose clamp to a torque of 5.4 ± 0.5 N·m (47.71 ± 4.34 lb in).

  6. Install the retainer and bolts (14). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 37 ± 4 N·m (27 ± 3 lb ft).

  7. Remove Tooling (B).

  8. Apply Tooling (E) on the threads of bolts (16). Install bolts (16).

  9. Connect the hose assemblies to tee (18). Tighten the hose assemblies to a torque of 80 ± 7 N·m (59 ± 5 lb ft).

  10. Install tee fitting (19) in the swivel joint. Tighten the tee to a torque of 40 ± 5 N·m (30 ± 4 lb ft).

  11. Connect the hose assemblies to tee (19). Tighten the hose assemblies to a torque of 40 ± 5 N·m (30 ± 4 lb ft).

  12. Connect hose assemblies (17).
