Assembly Procedure

1. Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause damage after prolonged operation. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.

2. Apply clean hydraulic oil to the side of diaphragm (2) that is in contact with the gas.

3. Install diaphragm (2) into base (3).

4. Use a proper lifting device in order to install cover (1). Lift cover (1) onto base (3).

5. Rotate the accumulator so that base (3) is facing upward.

6. Coat bolts (4) with Tooling (A). Coat the contact surface of bolts (4) with Tooling (A). Install bolts (4). Tighten bolts (4) in a star pattern. Refer to Specifications, "Hydraulic Accumulator (Low Pressure)" for the torque specifications.

7. Install the backup ring and O-ring seal (5). Apply Tooling (B) to O-ring seal (5).

8. Apply Tooling (B) to O-ring seal (7). Install plug (6) and O-ring (7). Do not torque the plug at this time.

1. Install the accumulator. Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly, "Hydraulic Accumulator (Low Pressure) - Install".
