Note: Check the O-ring seals, the gaskets, and the seals for wear or for damage. Replace the components, if necessary.


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Use Tooling (A), chains, and an appropriate lifting device to position main hydraulic pump (9) on cover (16). The weight of the hydraulic pump is approximately 45 kg (100 lb). Install bolts (15). Tighten bolts (15) to a torque of 140 ± 14 N·m (103 ± 10 lb ft).

  1. Use Tooling (A), chains, and an appropriate lifting device to position the main hydraulic pump on one side, as shown. Remove the chains and Tooling (A) .

  1. Apply 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease sparingly to shaft (13) prior to installation of hub (14A) .

  1. Position hub (14A) on the shaft with the same orientation that was marked during the removal procedure. Tighten two bolts (14) to a torque of 107 ± 10 N·m (79 ± 7 lb ft).

  1. Position coupling (11) with the same orientation that was marked during the removal procedure. Coat three bolts (12) with 7M-7456 Bearing Mount Compound before installation. Install three bolts (12). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 215 ± 10 N·m (159 ± 7 lb ft).

  1. Use lifting slings and an appropriate lifting device to position main hydraulic pump (9) and the cover for the flywheel housing in the machine. The combined weight of the main hydraulic pump and the cover for the flywheel is approximately 57 kg (125 lb).

  1. Align the three holes in coupling (11) with the three pins in the flywheel and slide the coupling onto the pins of the flywheel until cover (16) is flush with the flywheel housing.

  1. Install twelve bolts (10) that attach the cover to the flywheel. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 34 ± 4 N·m (25 ± 3 lb ft).

  1. Remove the lifting straps and the lifting device.

  1. Install the O-ring seal and tube assembly (4) .

  1. Install hose assembly (3). Tighten the hose assembly to a torque of 37 ± 4 N·m (27 ± 3 lb ft).

  1. Install hose assemblies (2). Tighten the hose assemblies to a torque of 108 ± 10 N·m (80 ± 7 lb ft).

  1. Install hose assembly (1). Tighten the hose assembly to a torque of 37 ± 4 N·m (27 ± 3 lb ft).

End By:

  1. Install the auxiliary hydraulic pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Auxiliary Hydraulic Pump - Install".
  2. Install the gear pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Gear Pump (Pilot) - Install".
  3. Install the hood. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hood - Remove and Install".
