The switch for the parking brake signals the transmission to the state of the parking brake. The switch for the parking brake is CLOSED to ground when the parking brake is NOT ENGAGED.

The transmission will remain in NEUTRAL if the transmission direction control handle is moved to FORWARD or REVERSE with the parking brake ENGAGED.

Note: The transmission direction control handle or the direction control switch must be shifted to NEUTRAL and the parking brake DISENGAGED in order to resume normal operation.

If the transmission direction control lever is moved to NEUTRAL and back into FORWARD or REVERSE within three seconds and the parking brake is ENGAGED the machine will be placed in gear and the parking brake alarm relay will be energized. The occurrence of the event will be logged in the memory. Moving the parking brake to DISENGAGED or shifting back to NEUTRAL will silence the alarm.

The Engagement of the Parking Brake During Movement

Note: A downshift will occur regardless of mode of operation. MANUAL and AUTOMATIC

One or more of the listed actions will occur.

  1. If the transmission is in FOURTH gear and the parking brake is ENGAGED, the transmission will automatically be downshifted to THIRD gear.

  1. If the machine is in THIRD gear, the machine will continue to operate in THIRD gear until the transmission output speed drops below 2400 rpm. Once the output speed is below 2400 rpm, the transmission will be shifted to SECOND gear.

  1. If the transmission is in SECOND gear, the machine will continue to operate until the machine speed drops below 6.4 km/h (4 mph). The transmission will be shifted to NEUTRAL once the speed is below 6.4 km/h (4 mph).

  1. If the transmission is in FIRST gear, the machine will shift into NEUTRAL.

The shifting of the transmission uses the engine to help slow the machine in a panic stop.
