3306C DIESEL TRUCK ENGINE Caterpillar

Road Test

Usage:

During the road test, be sure to notice the vehicle response and operation to satisfy yourself that the complaint is valid. The test must be done with the engine at normal operating temperatures. Also, for correct boost pressure measurements, the engine should be stabilized near full load for two minutes.

NOTE A: Fuel pressure at the fuel injection pump housing inlet must be a minimum of 170 kPa (25 psi) at rated speed (and engine under full load).

NOTE B: Measure boost pressure after the aftercooler core.

NOTE C: Air flow through the air cleaner must not have a restriction (negative pressure difference measurement between atmospheric air and air that has gone through air cleaner) of more than 635 mm (25 in) of water.

Back pressure from the exhaust (pressure difference measurement between exhaust at outlet elbow and atmospheric air) must not be more than 1016 mm (40 in) of water.

Exhaust back pressure must be measured 304.8 mm (12 in) or farther away from the turbocharger. A straight section of pipe is preferred for this measurement.

NOTE D: If fuel temperature measured between the primary filter and the fuel transfer pump exceeds 51.2°C (125°F), find the cause for the high fuel temperature and correct it.
