--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------
Description of Change: The switches have been improved to prevent open contacts. This condition typically occurred at temperatures below 32°C (0°F) and when the power terminals are side-loaded with large wires or terminals. The improvement includes a jam nut on each power terminal to keep the terminal in place and prevent the seal of the relay from being affected when large wires side-load the terminal.
Adaptable To: The 3E-9171 Switch is improved with the jam nut at change -05, date code T 10 (T=1997 and 10=week of the year); with change -06 the studs were lengthened to restore the original amount of stud length on the power terminals.
The 101-7740 Switch Assembly is improved with the jam nut at change -04. Longer studs were used at this time to keep the power terminals the same for installation. The date code of change -04 is T 23 (T=1997, 23=week of the year).
The improvements are adaptable to all Caterpillar products using the 3E-9171 Switch or 101-7740 Switch Assembly.
