Dimension X for the 16G Motor Grader that is given in the chart is not correct. The correct Dimension X for the 16G Motor Grader should be 199.1± 0.25 mm (7.839±.010 in)
--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------
The current front axle assemblies have close tolerances and most do not have shims with which to adjust the bearings. When first assembled, a shim was added only to those assemblies that had a rolling torque higher than the specifications allowed.
When attempting to adjust the bearings on a spindle that has no shims, the spindle length should be measured to determine if material should be removed from the spindle.
NOTE: A leaking Duo-cone seal or a loose wheel should be treated as separate problems. Duo-cone seals are very forgiving. Due to the total compression of the toric rings, a great amount of wheel looseness can occur and the seals will not leak. A Duo-cone seal leak is usually the result of a bad contact surface, dirt or irregular dimensions of the toric cavity. Loose bearings should not be the cause. It should not be assumed that leaking Duo-cone seals are the result of loose wheel bearings.
If the front wheel bearing is too loose, and there are no shims behind the retainer, remove the spindle and machine it to the dimensions shown in the chart. After the spindle has been machined to the correct length, install and adjust the bearings to the specifications given in the Service Manual.
