ACTION REQUIRED
Pre-installation procedure:The valve cover will need to be painted black using Cat P/N 4C-4198 paint. The valve cover base should be painted Caterpillar yellow using Cat P/N 4C-4200. Several valve covers can be painted using one can of paint. Install Oil fill and Acert decal on new valve cover. Note: NJT bus engines do not receive the Acert decal.
Remove current valve cover and base. Remove the injector wiring harness from old base and install in the new base. Install new valve cover and base following the correct repair procedure. A new bolt and spring assembly are required for the new valve cover base. Follow RENR9579 for installation instructions.
When replacing the valve cover, inspect the old valve cover for signs of wear underneath. If there are signs of high-pressure oil hitting the valve cover than replace the injector o-rings on all six cylinders. A parts recall has been set up on the valve cover, which will allow inspection of all returned covers.
