Description of Change: A new retaining ring is used to hold the bearings in position in the transmission planetary groups on the above machines. The new retaining ring is stronger and gives a more even contact pattern than the former ring. The bearing that the retaining ring holds has been redesigned to include a smaller radius. The smaller radius reduces the stress on the retaining ring.
Adaptable To: The improved 4S8546 Bearing (same part number) is a direct replacement for the former bearing. The new 8T1141 Retaining Ring is a direct replacement for the former 3P3441 Retaining Ring.
980C Transmissions with 8LA serial numbers use one retaining ring and one bearing. All other transmissions on the above machines use two retaining rings and three bearings. The illustration shows typical bearing and retaining ring locations.
