Usage:
(1) Torque for one bolt in each collet assembly ... 1350 ± 160 N·m (1000 ± 120 lb ft)
(2) Torque for one bolt and nut in each collet assembly ... 1800 ± 200 N·m (1330 ± 150 lb ft)
(3) Torque for one bolt and nut in each collet assembly ... 1800 ± 200 N·m (1330 ± 150 lb ft)
Collet Removal Tools
For collets (1) and (2) use three 5P-5265 forcing bolts.
For collets (3) use three 5P-8715 forcing bolts.
NOTE: For correct pin and collet installation and removal procedures, refer to Disassembly & Assembly, for the machine that is being serviced.
Pin and Collet Installation Procedure
1. Clean all collets and pins.
2. Clean the bores for all collets and pins.
3. Apply 7M-7456 Compound to bores before seal installation.
4. Put 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease on the pin bores before assembly. Put 5P-3931 Anti-Seize Compound on all collet fastening bolts.
5. Collets and pins must be centered axially.
Installation Procedure for Collet Assemblies (1):
1. Install the pin, collets and bolt as shown in the above illustration. The collet on one side must not extend farther than the other collet when the bolt is tight.
2. Tighten bolt (4) to a torque of 1350 ± 160 N·m (1000 ± 120 lb ft). After the bolt is tight, hit the collet on each side with a heavy hammer until the torque on the bolt is less than 680 N·m (500 lb ft).
3. Tighten the bolt again to a torque of 1350 ± 160 N·m (1000 ± 120 lb ft). Hit each collet again until the torque for the bolt is less than 1020 N·m (750 lb ft).
4. Tighten the bolt to a final torque of 1350 ± 160 N·m (1000 ± 120 lb ft).
NOTE: 50 service hours after any pin and collet was installed, tighten the bolt in each collet to 1350 ± 160 N·m (1000 ± 120 lb ft).
Installation Procedure for Collet Assemblies (2) and (3):
1. Install the pin, collets, bolt and nut as shown in the above illustration. The collet on one side must not extend farther than the other collet when the bolt and nut are tight.
2. Tighten bolt (5) and nut (6) evenly to a torque of 1800 ± 200 N·m (1330 ± 150 lb ft). After the bolt and nut are tight, hit the collet on each side with a heavy hammer until the torque on the bolts is less than 950 N·m (700 lb ft).
3. Tighten the bolt and nut again to a torque of 1800 ± 200 N·m (1330 ± 150 lb ft). Hit each collet again until the torque for the bolt and nut is less than 1600 N·m (1180 lb ft).
4. Tighten the bolt and nut to a final torque of 1800 ± 200 N·m (1330 ± 150 lb ft).
NOTE: 50 service hours after any pin and collet was installed, tighten the bolt and nut in each collet to 1800 ± 200 N·m (1330 ± 150 lb ft).
