In the past, several different piston designs have been used in 3208 Engines. As improved pistons have been used, some of the former pistons have been canceled. In some of the applications, pistons with straight sides on the pin bore boss were used. These pistons are no longer used at the factory, but the pistons are still available for parts service. Neither the pistons with the straight sides nor those with tapered sides are direct replacements for each other. All the pistons shown for the separate applications are direct replacements, if they have the same pin boss design and are the same size. The chart which follows shows the pistons which have been used, and those which are currently used. In each application there is one piston for each size and pin boss design which is available for parts service. The chart also shows the compression ratios for the different engine applications.
NOTICE |
---|
Do not use tapered connecting rods with straight side pistons. This combination of parts would cause the piston and rod assembly to be unbalanced.
