(1) Port that is used to measure the pressure at the water pump outlet (2) Port that is used to measure the pressure at the water pump inlet |
Making contact with a running engine can cause burns from hot parts and can cause injury from rotating parts. When working on an engine that is running, avoid contact with hot parts and rotating parts. |
The pressure rise is the difference between inlet pressure and outlet pressure of the water pump. The pressure rise is an indicator of the condition of the water pump. Use port (1) to measure the water pump outlet pressure. Use port (2) to measure the pressure at the water pump inlet.
To calculate the pressure rise, subtract the inlet pressure from the outlet pressure. The pressure rise must maintain a minimum of 50 kPa (7.5 psi) during the following conditions:
- Normal operating temperature of the engine
- 1800 rpm engine speed
- Full engine load
