Introduction

This Special Instruction contains the necessary information for configuring the touchscreen IP addresses on certain UPS models.

Note: When working to address issues with the UPS touchscreen, always disconnect from any networks external to the UPS. This precaution will enable isolation of UPS to avoid potential conflicts from external sources. Isolating the UPS from external networks will also assist when trouble shooting such errors as: incorrect information on the display, no information on the display, and display not found.

Do not perform any procedure in this Special Instruction until you have read and understood the information in the entire Special Instruction.

Important Safety Information

Work safely. Most accidents involving product operation, maintenance, and repairs, are caused by failure to observe basic safety rules or precautions. Accidents can often be avoided by recognizing potentially hazardous situations before the accident occurs.

A person must be alert to potential hazards. This person should also have the necessary training, skills, and tools, to perform these functions properly.

Safety precautions and warnings are provided in this instruction and on the product. If any hazard warning is not heeded, bodily injury or death can occur to you, or to other persons. Caterpillar cannot anticipate every possible circumstance that might involve a potential hazard. The warnings in this publication, and the warnings that are on the product, are not all inclusive.

Ensure that any tool, procedure, work method, or operating technique you use that is not recommended by Caterpillar is safe.

Ensure that the product will not be damaged, or made unsafe, by the operation, lubrication, maintenance, or the repair procedures that are used.

Configuration Procedure

MMU IP Settings

Perform the following procedure for MMU IP settings:

  1. Obtain your UPS components IP settings from IT/network admin.

Note: One static IP address is required for each MMU, as well as an additional static IP for the display. An additional static IP address may be required if the UPS is equipped with the SNMP option.

Refer to following for examples of what IP addresses will look like:

    Display IP - 10.140.60.100

    MMU1 IP - 10.140.60.101

    MMU2 IP - 10.140.60.102

    MMU3 IP - 10.140.60.103

    Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0

    Default Gateway - 10.140.60.1

  1. Connect a computer loaded with UPS View to the serial port of the UPS.

Note: The configuration can only be performed with a serial connection. For other information on using UPS View, reference Systems Operation, RENR9558.
