Description of Change: A garter spring is now available to improve the vent seal capability to relieve combustion pressure from the well below the ignition transformers. This improvement will help to prevent damage to the transformer due to excessive pressure.
The excessive pressure in the ignition well is due to combustion gas leakage which is caused by the following conditions:
- Not replacing the spark plug gasket during maintenance
- Dirty sealing surfaces
- Leaking spark plugs
- Deformation of the ignition transformer case
- Cracks and/or separations above or below the transformer flange
- Moisture in the well under the transformer
- Extensions deformed and/or melted
Adaptable To: The new 316-4262 Garter Spring is used with the existing 135-2651 Vent Seal .
When adding the 316-4262 Garter Spring, it is not necessary to replace the 135-2651 Vent Seal.
The improved design utilizes a garter spring to retain and restrict the movement of the vent seal when exposed to combustion gas leaks and pressures. This improves the capability of the vent seal to relieve pressure properly. Refer to Illustrations 1, 2, and 3.
