Muffler - Remove and Install
Removal Procedure

Hot engine components can cause injury from burns. Before performing maintenance on the engine, allow the engine and the components to cool. |
- Remove the ether starting aid.
Reference: For more information about the removal of the ether starting aid, refer to the Service Manual module Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Ether Starting Aid".
- Loosen clamp (1) that holds the ejector assembly (2) in position. Remove ejector assembly (2) from muffler assembly (3) .

- In order to access the muffler assembly (3), open the right hand doors (4).

- Loosen hose clamp (5), and disconnect flexible hose (6) from muffler assembly (3) .

Note: For photographic reasons, the hood assembly has been removed.
- Remove two bolts, nuts and washers (7), that hold muffler assembly (3) to the mounting bracket (8) .

- Loosen clamp (9), and remove muffler assembly (3) from the machine.

Installation Procedure
- Position the muffler assembly (3) on the machine. Attach muffler assembly (3) and clamp (9) to the turbocharger. Install the two bolts, nuts and washers (7) that hold muffler assembly (3) to the mounting bracket (8). Tighten the nut on clamp (9) to the following torque 25 ± 7 N·m (20 ± 5 lb ft).

- Connect the flexible hose (6) to muffler assembly (3). Tighten the hose clamp (5) .

- Put a light coat of 5P-3931 Anti-Seize Compound on the clamped area of the muffler assembly (3) and ejector assembly (2). Put a light coat of 5P-3931 Anti-Seize Compound on the threads on clamp (1). Install ejector assembly (2) to muffler assembly (3). Tighten the bolt for clamp (1) to the following torque 30 ± 7 N·m (20 ± 5 lb ft).

- Install the ether starting aid.

- Close the engine access doors (4) .
