Transmission Oil Cooler - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.



NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".

  1. Remove the oil supply line and the oil return line on the transmission cooler.

  1. Remove bolts (1). Remove bolt (7). Remove bracket (2) .

  1. Remove bolts (9). Remove transmission oil cooler bonnet (8) from oil cooler core (3) .

  1. Remove bolts (6). Remove oil cooler core (3) from cooler bonnet (4) .

  1. Remove gasket (10) and gasket (11) from the oil cooler core.

  1. Remove bolts (5). Remove cooler bonnet (4) and the gasket from the cylinder block. Remove the O-ring seal from the cooler bonnet.

  1. If necessary, clean the tubes of the oil cooler core with a 3.81 mm (0.150 inch) diameter rod that is approximately 457 mm (18 inch) long.

  1. Install the O-ring seals on cooler bonnet (4). Apply Tooling (A) to the O-ring seal. Install the cooler bonnet in the engine oil cooler.

  1. Position the gasket and cooler bonnet (4) on the cylinder block. Install bolts (5) .

  1. Position gasket (11) and oil cooler core (3) on bonnet (4). Install bolts (6) .

  1. Position gasket (10) and transmission oil cooler bonnet (8) on oil cooler core (3). Install bolts (9) .

  1. Position bracket (2) on the cylinder block and install bolts (1) .

  1. Install bolt (7) .

  1. Install the oil supply line and the oil return line on the transmission cooler.

  1. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".
