Removal Procedure

( 1 ) | Tool (A) is a 46 mm socket. |
Start By:
- Remove the front housing. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Housing (Front) - Remove".
- Remove the flywheel housing. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Flywheel Housing - Remove and Install".
- Remove the engine oil pan. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pan - Remove and Install".

- Install nut (3) and the washer onto the crankshaft. Use Tool (A) to turn the crankshaft.

- Remove twelve nuts (1) that secure connecting rod caps (2). Remove six connecting rod caps (2) .
Note: Be careful not to damage the bearings. Mark each connecting rod cap and the bearing in order to ensure installation in the original location.
- Use tape or rubber tubing on connecting rod bolts (6) to protect the crankshaft.

- Carefully push the connecting rods and the pistons into the top of bores.
- Remove fourteen bolts (4) that secure crankshaft main bearing caps (5). Remove seven crankshaft main bearing caps (5) .
Note: Be careful not to damage the bearings. Mark each crankshaft main bearing cap and the bearing in order to ensure installation in the original location.
- Fasten a suitable lifting device and straps to crankshaft (7). Remove the crankshaft. The weight of the crankshaft is 39 kg (86 lb).
Note: Be careful not to damage the finished surfaces on the crankshaft.

- Remove the upper halves of crankshaft main bearings (8). If necessary, remove thrust washers (9) .
