Oil Pan - Remove and Install
Removal Procedure

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Drain the oil from the engine into a suitable container for storage or disposal. The capacity of the engine oil with filter is 13.5 L (3.5 US gal).
- Remove the engine oil level gauge. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Level Gauge - Remove and Install" in this manual.
- Disconnect electrical connector (1) .

- Remove 30 bolts (2) and the 30 washers.
- Remove oil pan (3) .
Installation Procedure
- Make sure that all mating surfaces of the oil pan and the engine block are thoroughly clean. Use a new gasket for the installation.
- Position the new gasket and oil pan (3) on the engine block.

- Install the 30 washers and 30 bolts (2). Tighten the 30 bolts to a torque of 10 to 13 N·m (7 to 10 lb ft).
- Connect electrical connector (1) .
- Install the engine oil level gauge. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Level Gauge - Remove and Install" in this manual.
- Fill the engine with oil to the correct level. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual for the correct procedure.
