The high pressure water pump thermal valve may fail on certain SF-200R and SF-200RS Cold Planers. Under certain conditions personal injury or death may result if the thermal valve fails. Dear Caterpillar Product Owner:
The high-pressure water pump thermal valve may fail on the products listed below. If the thermal valve fails under certain conditions, there could be flying debris with the potential for personal injury or death. The position of the high-pressure water pump needs to be modified and the valve needs to be replaced.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service. Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated October 31, 2005 when scheduling this service. You will not be charged for the service performed.

REWORK PROCEDURE
Loosen the joints (2,3) of the hydraulic hoses that connect to the high pressure water pump (1). Then, loosen the water tube (4).
Clean the threaded holes in the welded plate (5) with an M8 tap.
Remove the screws (6),
Remove the high pressure water pump (1), with the support (7).
Replace the existent valve (9) with a new valve p/n 277-2516.
Reassemble the pump and support in vertical position on the plate (5) with same screws (6).
Reroute and reconnect the hose joints (2,3) and water tube (4).
Reorient the pressure gauge(8) so it can be read.
