Problem

The switch for the differential steering lubrication warning light needs to
be removed on certain Challenger 65 Tractors. If the diaphragm in the switch
fails, loss of oil and damage to the differential steering could result.
Once the switch is removed, the brake indicator light will provide the
warning for loss of pressure in the differential steering lubrication system.

MODELS INVOLVED - Challenger 65 Tractors
Dear Caterpillar Product Owner:
The switch for the differential steering lubrication warning light needs to
be removed on the products listed below. The repair will be done at no cost
to you.
Once the switch is removed, the brake indicator light will provide the
warning for loss of pressure in the differential steering lubrication system.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately and schedule a time to have
this service performed. The repair time for this service is approximately
two hours.
We regret the inconvenience this may cause you, but urge you to have this
service performed as soon as possible to prevent unscheduled downtime.

Rework Procedure
Use the following steps to reduce the possibility of differential steer
damage due to a failed 9X5322 Switch.
1. Be sure the brake accumulator has been precharged with nitrogen.
2. Be sure the differential steer lube oil compartment is filled with 50
gallons of the correct viscosity oil for the maximum ambient temperature
in which the tractor will operate.
3. Remove the 9X5322 Switch and install a 9S4191 Plug and 3J1907 O-ring
Seal in place of the switch.
4. On Challenger 65 Tractors (7YC1453-1538) equipped with the performance
monitor, connect a jumper wire between Terminals 1 and 2 of the wiring
harness that was disconnected from the switch. All Challenger 65
Tractors (7YC1-1452) equipped with gauges or performance monitors do not
require the jumper wire. See the Illustration.
5. Fabricate and install a plug for the wiring harness connection.
