New VIMS-PC software is now available. Version 2008A is an update to all previous versions of the VIMS-PC software, but version 2008A may also serve as a new installation of the VIMS-PC application. The following versions are included in the release of version 2008A:
- VIMS-PC software 2008A
- Version 2.1.0 of the database
- Version 8.0.4 of the master database
The following list contains the modifications and enhancements of VIMS-PC software 2008A:
- Names of ASCII files were modified in order to have the same name as the raw data files.
- Event durations in the event reports are enhanced to display "--" when VIMS cannot determine the duration of the active event.
- The worst case values in event reports were modified in order to handle events that were active for more than one download.
- A download of events on machines with the source code version of at least 11.0 were modified for proper downloading of files.
- A modification was made for consistent downloading of files with the newer, faster computers that are on the market.
- An enhancement was made for a connection with the new version of stand-alone hardware for Payload Control System (PCS).
- A modification was made for users that are connected to a machine with a source code version equal to or greater than 11.0. This modification may allow the users to get configuration data from the machine. The user may view the data in VIMS Change Configuration (VCC), but the user will not be allowed to copy the configuration from the machine.
- Event report was enhanced in order to display an Event Identifier Data (EID) and a Warning Category Indicator (WCI) for data events. For further information, refer to the reference that is listed above.
- An enhancement was made for compatibility with the operating system for Microsoft Vista.
Procedure for Downloading File for Microsoft Vista
Administrator rights are required to perform the following functions:
- Installation of the VIMS-PC application
- Update of the VIMS-PC application
Note: If the user is installing VIMS-PC software 2008A on a computer with a master database version that is greater than 8.0.4, then the user will need to run the appropriate update for the master database after the installation of VIMS-PC software 2008A.
Perform the following procedure in order to download a file from Microsoft Windows for compatibility with the Vista operating system:
- Verify that the user is an administrator and verify that the VIMS-PC application is run as an administrator. In order to change the administrator rights, perform the following procedure:
- Access the VIMS-PC application folder. The default is "c:\Program Files\VIMS".
- Right click on the folder for the VIMS-PC software. Select "Properties".
- From the "Security" tab, select "Edit".
- On the "Permissions for VIMS dialog", select "Users" for the username. Check the "Full control" check box in order to allow access.
This selection will allow the user to run the VIM-PC application as a standard user or as an administrator.
- Download the following file from Microsoft Windows.
- Go to "www.microsoft.com/download".
- Search for the file "WinHlp32.exe for Windows Vista".
- Go to the article "WinHlp32.exe for Windows Vista".
- Follow the directions that are provided in order to enable support for the Vista operating system.
