Schematic of the Left Stabilizer Cylinder Extend Solenoid

This diagnostic code is associated with the Left Stabilizer Cylinder Extend Solenoid. FMI 06 indicates that the ECM has detected that the Left Stabilizer Cylinder Extend Solenoid circuit is shorted to ground.

The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed:

  • The energize circuit of the solenoid is shorted to ground.

  • The solenoid has failed.

  • A relay has failed

  • The stabilizer switch has failed.

  • The ECM has failed. This is unlikely.

Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these codes until the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 2287 FMI 06 is active before performing this procedure.

Note: Use the 146-4080 Digital Multimeter for the measurements in this procedure.

System Response:

The diagnostic code of CID 2287 FMI 06 will be logged in the internal memory of the Machine ECM.

Test Step 1. CHECK THE SOLENOID.

  1. Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position. Do not start the engine.

  1. Observe the status of the diagnostic code.

  1. Disconnect the solenoid with the active diagnostic code from the machine harness.

Expected Result:

CID 2287 FMI 06 is replaced by CID 2287 FMI 05 when the solenoid is disconnected.

Results:

  • YES - CID 2287 FMI 06 is replaced by CID 2287 FMI 05 when the solenoid is disconnected. The circuit is correct.

Repair: The solenoid has failed. Repeat this test "CHECK THE SOLENOID" in order to verify the solenoid failure. Replace the solenoid and verify that the new solenoid corrects the problem.

    STOP

  • NO - CID 2287 FMI 06 remains active. Proceed to Test Step 2.

Test Step 2. CHECK THE ENERGIZE CIRCUIT OF THE SOLENOID FOR A SHORT TO GROUND.

  1. Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.

  1. The solenoid remains disconnected from the machine harness.

  1. Disconnect the machine harness connector(s) from the ECM.

  1. At the machine harness connector for the ECM, measure the resistance from the contact J1-42 (wire 776-YL) to all contacts that are used in the machine harness connectors for the ECM.

Expected Result:

Each resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms.

Results:

  • OK - Each resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms. The machine harness is correct. Proceed to Test Step 3.

  • NOT OK - Each resistance measurement is not greater than 5000 ohms. There is a short in the machine harness. The short is between J1-42 (wire 776-YL) and the circuit with the low resistance measurement.

Repair: Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness, as required.

    STOP

Test Step 3. CHECK THE RELAYS.

  1. Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position. Do not start the engine.

  1. Observe the status of the diagnostic code.

  1. Disconnect the relays with the active diagnostic code from the machine harness.

Expected Result:

CID 2287 FMI 06 is replaced by CID 2287 FMI 05 when the relays are disconnected.

Results:

  • YES - CID 2287 FMI 06 is replaced by CID 2287 FMI 05 when the relays are disconnected. The circuit is correct.

Repair: A relay has failed. Repeat this test "CHECK THE RELAYS" in order to verify the failure of the relay. Replace the failed relay and verify that the new relay has corrected the problem.

    STOP

  • NO - CID 2287 FMI 06 remains active. Proceed to Test Step 4.

Test Step 4. CHECK IF THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE REMAINS.

  1. Inspect the harness connectors and clean the contacts of the harness connectors.

  1. Reconnect all harness connectors.

  1. Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.

  1. Operate the machine.

  1. Check the status of the CID 2287 FMI 06.

Expected Result:

The CID 2287 FMI 06 is active.

Results:

  • YES - The CID 2287 FMI 06 is active. The diagnostic code has not been corrected. The ECM may have failed.

Repair: It is unlikely that the ECM has failed. Exit this procedure and perform this procedure again. If the cause of the diagnostic code is not found, replace the ECM. See Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace".

    STOP

  • NO - The CID 2287 FMI 06 is not active. The diagnostic code does not exist at this time.

Repair: The initial diagnostic code was probably caused by a poor electrical connection or a short at one of the harness connectors that was disconnected and reconnected. Resume normal machine operation.

    STOP
